Why Donate?

Your tax-deductible contribution to Learning Works Charter School will have a direct impact on the education of our students and our programming. Since we opened in 2008, we’ve made great progress in our mission of graduating local at-risk and in-crisis youth with a high school diploma, regardless of educational history or life experiences. We are also the official school for Homeboy Industries with our fully operational resource center located in Boyle Heights. Learning Works has graduated over 1074 students, the vast majority of whom had previously dropped out, disengaged or experienced long absences from schooling.

The "Works"

In addition to our school, we maintain complementary initiatives, which seek to address the impact of poverty and eliminate barriers to education. Public Works is a nonprofit research corporation that provides consultation services related to school improvement, workforce development, and social services. Community Works supports parents and students through tutoring, after-school classes, intervention and enrichment, as well as strategies for parents to engage with their child’s school. artWORKS develops the artistic expression of youth and creates alternative activities to prevent youth from participating in negative and self-destructive behaviors. GroWORKS is a community and school garden designed to teach youth about caring for an inner-city garden. And Hope Works is a drop-in center for homeless youth ages 17-24 that provides shower and laundry facilities, basic hygiene supplies, dinner and snacks, and physical and mental health services and referrals.
